It disturbs me to head that professionals face disrespect without support.

I hear about this OVER and OVER again. In my case, it's amazing that the places that have horrid ratings for turnover and staff behavior want to hire people to solve the problem, but then either get nitpicky about hiring people like me with a felony or when they do hire, treat new employees so badly they leave. Someone I know worked in Behavioral Health and actually DEVELOPED an SUD from the stress of not having support and being told to put out all the fires himself.

Thank you for speaking up Jesse! I couldn't have said it better myself. Criminal records should not have to be a factor but unfortunately they do. High turnover rates, hostile work environments, and then expecting new employees to perform incredible feats when they're not given the resources to do so is a disappointment. Mental health of staff is a huge topic that goes overlooked. Stress from the job can cause people to form SUDs themselves which is just another problem for an already under-budgeted department. Directors and staff who actually care about the people they work with and lead makes all the difference.

As someone who has worked in this field and is currently at my wits end in a similar profession... I couldn't agree more with every word spoken in this article. Thankyou for speaking up about this and for taking care of yourself.
